'Best Man' bags Schoenfeld

The incoming Broadway revival of "Gore Vidal's The Very Best Guy" has reserved the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater for any March start, with thesps Jefferson Mays, Dakin Matthews and Donna Hanover all signed onto join the cast. Mays, who acquired a Tony for his perf in 2003 outing "I'm My Very Own Wife," will have a businessman within the play concerning the behind-the-moments machinations in a national political convention. Matthews ("Henry IV") is aboard like a senator, while Hanover -- the actress and television journo recognized to Gothamites as Rudolph Giuliani's ex -- will have a reporter. Stars enroll in a starry cast that already includes James Earl Johnson, Candice Bergen, John Larroquette, Eric McCormack and Angela Lansbury. Michael Wilson ("The Orphans' Home Cycle") helms. "Best Guy" moves in to the Rialto venue potential vacated by short-resided tuner "Bonnie and Clyde." Both "Bonnie," which shuts 12 ,. 30, and "Best Guy" are created by Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel, using the duo also one of the producers backing a brand new version of "Best Guy" following their participation an early on Broadway staging in 2000.
